The Lithium Polymer battery is a new, rechargeable
lithium-based battery which was developed as a lower-cost alternative and a
more stable version of the lithium-ion cell. Also, certain measures need to be
followed when using such polymer batteries.
However, we are here to discuss its safety precautions
and disposal methods:

1. Safety
precautions – We recommend to never allow Lithium Polymer battery to be charged
or discharged on or near combustible materials such as paper, plastic, plastic,
vinyl, carpets, leather, wood, inside an R/C model or full-sized automobile.
2. Try not
to put packs in the pockets of clothing
3. Also, do
not allow Lithium Polymer batteries to come in contact with any kind of
moisture or water
4. Avoid
storing the batteries near an open flame or heater
5. Do not
assemble Lithium Polymer
battery or pre-assembled packs together with other Lithium cells/packs.
6. LiPo
cells must not be allowed to be punctured by metallic objects such as
screwdrivers, T-pins, or hobby knives
7. Keep LiPo
cells or packs away from children and in a secure location
8. Ensure
the removal from your hands when handling Lithium Polymer battery,
as doing so can create a short-circuit condition and possibly cause several
personal injuries.
Now let us look at the ways to dispose of the Lithium
Polymer battery and packs:
1. Place the
LiPo battery in a fire-proof container or bucket of sand
2. In case
of the damage of LiPo battery, it results in a swollen cell or a split or tears
in a cell\s foil covering
3. Connect
the battery to a LiPo discharger while setting the discharge cutoff voltage to
the lowest possible value, and the current as low as 20mA if possible.
